Minor Arcana -
Interpreting the Suit of Wands

An introduction to the Suit of Wands

The Suit of Wands corresponds with energy, creativity, growth, and passionate intensity, all of which can be attributed to the astrological fire signs Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. The masculine energy of the fire signs is carried over in the Suit of Wands in the wilful determination to enact change and move forward with personal affairs, particularly those concerned with business, financial estates, and all other career-oriented matters. Above all, the Suit of Wands represents a state of activity and liveliness, promoting the expression and utilization of creative forces which may manifest in the form of a new business endeavour, a new career, or simply just revising an already existing plan or way of doing things.

The Suit of Wands promotes the idea that one should explore and embrace opportunity with a sense of optimism and determination, for success comes easily to those who commit their life's work with enthusiasm and confidence. All of the imaginings, ideas, and possibilities constructed in the human mind are realized in the Suit of Wands as thoughts which may and can be transformed into actions, requiring initiative and drive to shape potential into something fit for reality.

The Suit of Wands symbolizes long and short term goals, as well as the mundane tasks which we aspire to complete effectively and with the sincerest of efforts on a daily basis. These tasks which occupy the mind and the body, including the motivations driving them, represent a state of self-improvement and discovery, as well as personal development and forward thinking. Thus the Suit of Wands can be said to be the application of our abilities driven to completion, all of the ideas running through our heads, and the conscious planning of present and future decisions.
